jonas meshka

Jonas Meshka is the alias of Lithuanian-born artist Dominykas Marašinskas. Based in Brooklyn, this project is intended to display an accumulation of ongoing works across mediums as it all develops, while also curating past material to contextualize the current work.

Largely interested in examining environment and self, articulating specific details that I find most interesting. This is a test, fart sniff fart sniff. This site remains fairly early in construction.

In The Woods Then Elsewhere

I grew up a fairly creative kid but it wasn't until my twenties that the identity of artist became something I toiled over.

I grew up online, on message boards and AOL instant messenger. I wanted to make my own signature banners and buddy icons. I got my hands on a pirated copy of Photoshop circa middle school and used tutorials I found to figure it out.

I'll be a graphic designer. I made designs for friends to have printed on their band's shirts, to make flyers, I'd flirt by making little designs for girls I liked.

I went to a whatever small art school near where I lived at the time in South Florida and got a BFA in graphic design. I graduated in 2011 and when I couldn't find work, I took a chance and moved to Austin, Texas. In doing so, I stumbled into an unexpected career working in customer support for Apple.

I'd find work-related projects to manifest that gave me an excuse to design artwork for a team playlist, or whatever else. But my creative output greatly diminished.

Then came the pandemic, and everyone lost their minds. I took time off work, tried getting sober, and ultimately threw myself into tinkering. I had access to Logic Pro and Final Cut Pro through my employment, and so I opted to play around.

I eventually got a MIDI keyboard and coupled with sounds I'd come across, I started to put together beats and doodles, in a sense. I liked writing poetry and I'd experiment with spoken-word.

Blah blah blah.
